OUR HISTORY
Rooted in Capitol Hill Since 1881
For more than 140 years, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church has been part of the Denver community. Founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1881, the congregation has worshiped, served, and grown alongside the city through generations of change.
When many urban churches relocated to the suburbs in the mid-20th century, Our Savior’s chose to remain in Capitol Hill. That decision shaped the congregation’s identity and deepened its commitment to the neighborhood it calls home.
Since moving to its current location at 9th Avenue and Emerson Street in 1923, Our Savior’s has sought to live out Christ’s command to love God and love our neighbors. Over the years, that commitment has taken many forms: nurturing spiritual growth, supporting those facing hunger and housing challenges, investing in children and families, advocating for justice, and caring for older adults.
Today, Our Savior’s continues this work with the same spirit that has guided the congregation for generations: a faith that is lived out in worship, service, community, and care for others.
